Rift Valley
Lake Naivasha
A freshwater lake of hippos, fish eagles, and boat safaris
Ringed by papyrus and fever-tree forest, Lake Naivasha is the Rift Valley's freshwater jewel and one of Kenya's most relaxed safari stops. A boat safari glides past pods of hippo, rafts of pelican, and perched African fish eagles, while nearby Crescent Island offers rare walking safaris on foot among giraffe, zebra, and waterbuck with no predators to worry about. Its gentle pace and short transfer from Nairobi make it a favourite opening or closing chapter to a longer journey.
